Water in Dry Places
I recently had an experience that both grew and humbled me. Two different people that I trust (one of them my own dad) gave me feedback on my voice at different times. They said the same exact thing, pointing out something in the way I sing that could be better. In both cases, they gave the feedback, but could not tell me how to fix it. I was grateful and knew that what they said was true. But I grew increasingly frustrated as my confidence fell every time I opened my mouth to sing. I was even tempted to be resentful about the feedback. Without the how I felt powerless to make a change, even though I wanted to.
Singing to the Lord is my greatest joy, the place I find freedom, and rest. When I sing to Him in worship, I draw from the well that is the Source of my everything: His presence. When I sing, He rushes in like a mighty wind and carries me in His arms to His Throne of Grace. Of course, the enemy would love to take that from me, to break down my confidence and stop me from singing. I realized as the days went by that I was singing less and less because of self-doubt about my voice.
A few weeks later, I was so dry and desperately in need of the Lord’s presence and love. I felt terrible! It got so bad that I finally (I know…why do I wait so long??) went up for prayer after service the next Sunday. Later that same day, Father God sent someone to teach me the how! He answered my prayer and quickly!! What a good Shepherd!
I practiced hard, and fixed the problem! Now, I have greater confidence when I sing! My voice is stronger, and I understand how to continue working to make it even better! Our God is so wonderful!!
“And the Lord with continually guide you, and satisfy your soul in scorched and dry places, and give strength to your bones; and you will be like a well-watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.” (Isaiah 58:11 AMP)
There are many places in our lives that can become scorched and dry. The enemy’s lies want to take up residence and keep us from the wells of water. Experiencing His love in prayer, worship, His Word, His presence, those are the wells we need to continue growing strong.
What are your dry places? What are the wells that draw you most deeply into His love? Take some time at the well today and drink deeply.
